چکیده

This contribution presents a derivation of the steady-state distribution of velocities and distances of driven particles on a onedimensional periodic ring. We will compare two different situations: (i) symmetrical interaction forces fulfilling Newton’s law of “actio = reactio” and (ii) asymmetric, forwardly directed interactions as, for example in vehicular traffic. Surprisingly, the steady-state velocity and distance distributions for asymmetric interactions and driving terms agree with the equilibrium distributions of classical many-particle systems with symmetrical interactions, if the system is large enough. This analytical result is confirmed by computer simulations and establishes the possibility of approximating the steady state statistics in driven many-particle systems by Hamiltonian systems. Our finding is also useful to understand the various departure time distributions of queueing systems as a possible effect of interactions among the elements in the respective queue [D. Helbing et al., Physica A 363, 62 (2006)]. PACS. 05.40.-a Fluctuation phenomena, random processes, noise, and Brownian motion – 47.70.-n Nonequilibrium gas dynamics – 89.40.-a Transportation

Dilations‎, ‎models‎, ‎scattering and spectral problems of 1D discrete Hamiltonian systems

In this paper, the maximal dissipative extensions of a symmetric singular 1D discrete Hamiltonian operator with maximal deficiency indices (2,2) (in limit-circle cases at ±∞) and acting in the Hilbert space ℓ_{Ω}²(Z;C²) (Z:={0,±1,±2,...}) are considered. We consider two classes dissipative operators with separated boundary conditions both at -∞ and ∞. For each of these cases we establish a self...

Approximate dissipative Hamiltonian realization and construction of local Lyapunov functions

The key in applying energy-based control approach is to be able to express the system under consideration as a dissipative Hamiltonian system, i.e., to obtain Dissipative Hamiltonian Realization (DHR) for the system. In general, the precise DHR form is hard to obtain for nonlinear dynamic systems. When a precise DHR does not exist for a dynamic system or such a precise realization is difficulty...

Constant flux relation for driven dissipative systems.

Conservation laws constrain the stationary state statistics of driven dissipative systems because the average flux of a conserved quantity between driving and dissipation scales should be constant. This requirement leads to a universal scaling law for flux-measuring correlation functions, which generalizes the 4/5th law of Navier-Stokes turbulence. We demonstrate the utility of this simple idea...

Construction of discrete-time models for port-controlled Hamiltonian systems with applications

The issues of constructing a discrete-time model for Hamiltonian systems are in general different from those for dissipative systems. We propose an algorithm for constructing an approximate discrete-time model, which guarantees Hamiltonian conservation. We show that the algorithm also preserves, in a weaker sense, the losslessness property of a class of port-controlled Hamiltonian systems. An a...

Hamiltonian Structure for Dispersive and Dissipative Dynamical Systems

We develop a Hamiltonian theory of a time dispersive and dissipative inhomogeneous medium, as described by a linear response equation respecting causality and power dissipation. The proposed Hamiltonian couples the given system to auxiliary fields, in the universal form of a so-called canonical heat bath. After integrating out the heat bath the original dissipative evolution is exactly reproduc...
